vibrant matter

“Look at your hand - it is linked through hands like this back through the ages. This hand is directly linked to hands that learned to reach and grasp and climb and push up on dry land and weave reeds into baskets, and it has fantastic history. Every particle and every atom in this hand goes back to the beginning of space-time. We’re part of that story.” Joanna Macy

vibrant matter is a cosmic piece that delves into the history of the human body. This poetic assemblage of four performers looks into the deep connection of the cosmos to our bodies, and how the memory and resonance of millions of centuries is within us.

By recognising the histories we are made of, we can begin to understand the connection of our bodies to the world around us, discovering how our energy and lived experiences affect others. As I recognise your cells contain the universe, I thank the journey of my body to end up by your side.

This 45-min piece was made as a commission for Möbius Dance Company in Leeds.

Review

“Möbius have created something very special, exploring our relationships both between human beings and with the cosmos. The performances are simply superb and you can understand how choreographer Wilhelmina Ojanen has worked extensively with both dancers and composer Andrew Marriott to give a real freshness. The show is a real treasure with an apparent simplicity belying its actual complexity and drawing us into a different and very appealing world.”
